Donate to Help Your Planet and Your Fellow Human Being
What are the best charities to donate to? Many people wonder this when they are in the giving spirit, or when they are wondering what to do to make this world better, or when they reach the realization that whether or not they live in extreme excess, they do have more than many others who are less fortunate, and they want to do something about it. And more people, in this country in particular, are much more well-off than they often give thought to. When you consider the number of people worldwide who struggle to make it day to day to feed or clothe themselves and their families, or to even get clean drinking water, our minor first-world problems don\’t seem quite so epic, and it becomes easier to find a way to give back.
So what are the best charities to donate to?
When you find yourself asking the question, \”What are the best charities to donate to?\” there are factors to consider, surely, but the answer is often not the same for every individual. You may be trying to find where to donate household items while someone else\’s main concern in which place has donation pickup as opposed to only clothing drop off locations. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the main goal is helping families in need. Most communities have multiple locations and businesses that accepts secondhand goods and clothing, and if you needed any further reasons to donate, most of what you give up can be written off on your taxes, with the proper documentation, of course. And while it would be worth looking into each business to ensure that their work ethic is sound, that they treat their employees well, and that the donations go where they are best used, for the most part there isn\’t necessarily one best charity to donate to. Your contribution will help someone less fortunate, and that is what matters.
Other aspects of donating clothing
Not only should it matter to you that you have the power to help someone in need, but another benefit of donating those clothes you haven\’t worn in months, or years, (a good rule would be that if you haven\’t worn an article of clothing in six months to a year, you should probably put it in the \”donate\” box) is that you are helping to save the planet in the process. Nearly 100% of all household clothing and other textiles can be recycled, whether they are in top notch condition or not. And while around 4.7 billion pounds of clothing are typically donated every year in this country, that averages out to only about 15% of used clothing being recycled or donated by Americans. And with typical Americans buying at least two times as many articles of clothing as was being purchased 20 years ago, we have some room for improvement. The good news is that every piece of clothing that is donated or recycled is another piece of fabric not being contributed to a landfill. So donate, and help save the earth while you\’re making a difference in another person\’s life as well.
There are so many reasons to do a little spring cleaning — in any season — and fill up a few — or several — boxes to donate. And there are no good reasons not to. Make a difference in more than one way when you empty out your closet of those things you don\’t need.
