What to Do With Items You Don\’t Need
Spring is over and you missed the spring cleaning period of time. But it\’s okay, summer is a great time to go through your house and get rid of things. We tend to collect so much clutter and unnecessary items throughout the year, our houses get packed out with a bunch of things that we never use and don\’t need. It\’s hard to relax when you know all of those things are messing up your house. You would be a much happier person if you could just get rid of it all and become a minimalist. Well, maybe not a minimalist but definitely on that road. But, what to do with everything that you want out of your home? There\’s clothes, kitchen appliances, home decor, nick knacks and more. Here are a few ideas of things you could do to get rid of it all.
Yard Sale
Or garage sale, whichever you prefer. They\’re the same thing really. Pick a Saturday that you are not doing anything in the morning and get to work. You could advertise if you are feeling up to it by making up a few flyers to put in neighbors mailboxes. You could also put up a posting on Craig\’s List to inform people that you will be having a yard sale during a specific time on that specific Saturday. It\’s best to start out as early as possible as most people do their yard sale shopping in the morning. Price things to sell. Remember, the goal isn\’t necessarily to make money. That\’s a bonus but more than anything you need to get rid of items so price things reasonably and be open to negotiate. Don\’t forget to set up signs pointing the way to your yard sale starting at the closest main road to your house. People actually go out on Saturday mornings to look for yard sales.
Red Cross Pickup
If you get all of your used clothing donations and other items together in boxes, Red Cross pickup will actually come to your home and take your clothes donations and whatever else you have away for you. It makes it very convenient. You don\’t necessarily even need to be home. You can call them and have Red Cross pickup come get everything from your porch or patio if you know you won\’t be there. However, make sure that they leave a receipt in your mailbox for you so that you can add it to your tax deductions next year. Or you always have the option of dropping the things off at a red cross donation center if that\’s better for you. Charities really do try to make it as easy and convenient as possible to donate because they appreciate your giving and sacrifice at all.
Giveaways
If you have a lot of friends that comment on your style and preferences you could always make it into a little party and have all your friends over to pick and grab what they want. The only problem with something like this is that you will probably have items left over. It\’s not likely that everything will be taken during a party like this because people will be looking for things that they need. You could do stranger giveaways to by placing the items on the curb outside your home with \’free\’ labels on them and see how fast they disappear. Again, you could place a posting on Craig\’s List letting folks know what kind of items you are giving away and that first come are first served.
Between the Red Cross pickup, yard sale and giveaway ideas there is bound to be plenty of ways that you could easily get rid of your gently used items that you no longer need or want. It can be daunting when you first start thinking about going through all of your belongings but once it\’s done you will literally feel like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. You\’ll finally be able to enjoy your home and you might even be inspired to some deep summer cleaning or even redecorating. Careful about the redecorating though, you don\’t want to end up with more things to get rid of!
